Post-Election Musings

For the first time, since I turned 18 years old, I was so disgusted with our presidential options that I almost didn’t even vote. Politics in America is a mockery. It is divisive and disgraceful. I am ashamed of the leaders of our country.

I have friends that identify as Democrats and friends that identify as Republican. I love and respect them all the same, because their hearts truly and genuinely care about our country, rights, and freedoms.

The people leading the left and the right are so polarizing. Neither side has their finger on the pulse of where the vast majority of the American’s on either side stand on issues.

Both sides use fear to divide and conquer.

When I slow down and talk to my Democratic friends, I truly understand and connect with their concerns on issues. When I slow down and talk to my Republican friends, I truly understand and connect with their concerns on issues. Finding a middle ground is not difficult when two level headed people can have a conversation.

The problem is, fear is driving political conversations not love.

The Bible skims over various issues one time in a super ambiguous way, and many Christians are quick to  jump all over it, interpret it as they will, harp on it, and get on their pharisaical high horse about it. This is strange to me.

Especially because over and over the Bible calls us as followers of Christ to LOVE.

Literally there are countless verses about how we are called to love. There is zero ambiguity in the Bible about this. Some of these verses include:

1 Peter 4:8 “And Above all things have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins’”

and

Colossians 3:14, “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Additionally, over and over, with zero ambiguousness, the Bible tells us to not be afraid. Some of these verses include:

2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

and

Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

The leaders of the Democratic and the Republican parties and the media do not care about you or me except as a means of gaining power, money, and/or furthering their personal agendas.

We The People need to stop buying the nonsense that they are selling. They are two separate wings of the same bird.

-We need to have loving, level-headed conversations with each other.

-We need to see past the divisive language and fear mongering that the media and leaders of this country are using to keep us fighting.

-We need to see into the hearts of our opposite sided friends and neighbors, and remember that they are in fact, our friends and neighbors not our enemies.

We the people need to bring unity back to our nation.

Mark 12:31 “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”
